I knew there was a fire in 2001. I knew 2011 Twede’s:
wouldn’t be a carbon copy of the 1991 Mar-T Cafe (aka the Double R diner):
But I was really hoping they’d do a little more to cash in on the TP tourism, especially if the fire gave them a clean slate. I adored the faux Double R decor. It was warm and welcoming, and just the right amount of twee (pun intended):
I guess they don’t expect repeat business from us, the lovelorn saps:
Though the die-hard TP fans might be happier the cafe looks closer to how it did in the pilot:
And hey, I thought. Never mind the flies and grease, and the red neon lights making everything look lurid. I came here for a damn fine cup of coffee and a slice of that world-famous cherry pie. And since Coop had his with a scoop of ice-cream, I asked for mine a la mode as well:
Pity I couldn’t taste it for the ice-cream. But the coffee was great, and we did get a glimpse of some memorabilia:
Wait! Is that a picture signed by the Log Lady? Awesome… sort of. And sort of sad.
Ok, never mind the cafe. Let’s see the falls!
